Mahama swears in Mahama Ayariga, Zanetor as Ministers

President John Dramani Mahama has officially appointed Mahama Ayariga as the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology. The swearing-in ceremony took place at Jubilee House on Saturday, August 29, 2026, after their approval by Parliament on Thursday following a review by the Appointments Committee. This marks the commencement of their respective roles in the administration.

Ayariga, previously the Majority Leader in Parliament, has transitioned to oversee the Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs portfolio. Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, on the other hand, assumes responsibility for the Environment, Science and Technology sector. Post the oath-taking, Ayariga expressed his commitment to fulfilling the President's expectations and working towards the promises made during the 2024 election campaign.

He stated, "I want to assure you that we have listened carefully to your indication as to exactly what you expect of us as ministers of state and how you expect us to execute the assignment. I want to assure you that we will do exactly that." He further emphasized his intention to align their efforts with the President's vision for a reset in governance, committed to realizing the campaign pledges.

President Mahama has tasked Ayariga and Dr Zanetor with upholding accountability, transparency, and integrity as they embark on their new duties.
