At least 37 dead after Russian strike on depot near Kyiv

At least 37 people were killed in a Russian drone strike on a depot near Kyiv, according to Ukrainian authorities. The depot, located in the town of Myla on the city's western outskirts, contained "explosive objects," Ukrainian prosecutors said. President Volodymyr Zelensky blamed the tragedy on those who allowed the storage of ammunition near residential areas.

Both Russia and Ukraine have been increasing long-range strikes on each other, leading to fires and civilian casualties at their highest levels since the invasion began in 2022. The blast damaged residential areas, a care home for the elderly and disabled, and killed the mayor of the nearby town of Dmytrivka. Ukrainian prosecutors have launched an investigation into the legality of storing explosive materials at the facility and whether the owner had the proper permits.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergiy Koretsky expressed regret that similar mistakes were made a second time, calling it criminal negligence.
