LaFleur says he fully anticipates Packers keeping Josh Jacobs while charges are pending

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has expressed confidence that running back Josh Jacobs will remain with the team despite facing misdemeanor charges related to a physical altercation with his girlfriend. LaFleur made this statement following the Packers' final preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, which they won 42-38.

The charges, which include battery and criminal damage to property, were filed by the Brown County (Wisconsin) District Attorney's office on Thursday. The incident allegedly occurred three months prior to the charges being filed. LaFleur declined to comment on Jacobs' availability for the upcoming season opener against Minnesota on September 13, citing a lack of knowledge.

Jacobs was arrested on May 26 following a disturbance call to his home, and was released from jail the following day. His legal representatives, David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld, and Clarence F. Duchac III, acknowledged the charges but stated they do not constitute domestic violence. They also emphasized that any resolution of the situation would occur within the court system, not the media.

The NFL has stated it is monitoring the case, and the Packers have confirmed their cooperation with the NFL. Last season, Jacobs rushed for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns, and had previously led the league with 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2024, earning him a Pro Bowl selection.
