Kenya mourns King Harald V, Ruto sends condolences to Norway

President William Ruto has eulogised Norway's King Harald V, lauding him as an exceptional monarch defined by duty, dignity, humility and unwavering devotion to his people. Ruto's condolence message to Norway and its monarchy comes in the wake of the King's passing. He noted King Harald's reign aligned with significant social and global transformations, during which Norway emerged as a prosperous, stable and respected nation.

On behalf of Kenya's Government and people, as well as his own family, President Ruto expressed profound sympathy and condolences to Queen Sonja, the Royal Family, and the people of Norway. King Harald's legacy, Ruto highlighted, spanned over 35 years on the Norwegian throne. He recalled King Harald's journey from a young prince who witnessed exile during World War II to a monarch who oversaw Norway's rise as a prosperous, stable, and globally respected country.

Beyond Norway, Ruto emphasized King Harald's commitment to dialogue, human dignity, and international cooperation. The President highlighted his role in reinforcing Norway's position as a principled and trusted partner, advocating for peace, a rules-based international order, and a more just and sustainable world. Ruto also recalled his historic visit to Norway on June 8 and 9, 2026, the first ever by a Kenyan Head of State.

This visit marked the beginning of a new chapter in Kenya-Norway relations, with strengthened cooperation in various spheres such as peace and security, climate action, maritime affairs, trade, and multilateral cooperation.

Ruto assured Kenya's continued support to Norway, expressing deep sympathy and condolences to the Royal Family, Government, and people of Norway during their period of mourning. He wished them strength and consolation, hoping friends across the world share their grief.
