Desa ParkCity deaths: Netizens voice concern, call for increased enforcement, crackdowns on scammers

The tragic incident in Desa ParkCity has sparked outrage among netizens who are demanding stricter enforcement and crackdowns on online scams. A father is alleged to have killed his wife and two children at a condominium, reportedly due to discovering that his wife was involved in a love scam syndicate resulting in financial losses and debts of RM260,000. Police discovered a knife and gloves at the crime scene, which are believed to be connected to the murder.

Netizens have expressed deep concern over the increasing daringness of scammers and worry about the ease with which personal data is leaked, making them more susceptible to targeting vulnerable individuals. One netizen questioned how scammers know when someone reaches 55 and becomes eligible for their EPF (Employee Provident Fund) or identify lonely, elderly, and vulnerable victims.

Another user voiced concerns about the growing number of illegal loan sharks preying on those in financial distress, who may even contemplate suicide due to the pressure of taking out loans.

Several netizens shared their own experiences of almost falling victim to scams or having already been scammed. There has been a rise in love scams, particularly targeting the elderly.
