WCE expects more traffic as Malaysians hit the road for National Day, school holidays

IPOH, Aug 28 — The West Coast Expressway (WCE) anticipates a surge in traffic, surpassing 150,000 vehicles daily during the 69th National Day festivities and school vacations. This increase is primarily attributed to greater movement of people returning to their hometowns and inter-state travel, particularly between the Klang Valley and locales in Selangor and Perak.

Highway Operations head Syed Muhd Naguib Syed Mohd cautioned motorists to schedule their trips early and refrain from traveling during peak hours, especially from late afternoon to nightfall. "Our top priority is the safety of all highway users," he emphasized in a statement today. "Plan your journey, ensure you get sufficient rest, and never sacrifice safety for a few extra minutes."

WCE plans to bolster its operational readiness across open sections of the highway, incorporating 24-hour highway patrols, Emergency Response Teams (ERT), and persistent traffic monitoring. Motorists are strongly encouraged to utilize the WCE App for navigation and to receive real-time traffic updates, including live CCTV footage. In the event of emergencies, assistance is available 24/7 via the WCE Infoline at 1700-81-6600.

WCE also urges motorists to ensure their vehicles are in roadworthy condition, to adhere to speed limits, and to utilize the emergency lane only when absolutely necessary. Motorcycle shelters are situated along the highway for riders to rest or find shelter from inclement weather.
