WCE braces for 150,000 vehicles daily during National Day, school holidays

KUALA LUMPUR: The West Coast Expressway (WCE) operator anticipates over 150,000 vehicles will traverse the expressway's operational areas daily during the National Day and school holiday periods. This surge in traffic is attributed to Malaysians traveling for balik kampung trips, holidays, and domestic journeys. WCE Head of Highway Operations, Syed Muhd Naguib Syed Mohd, advised travelers to strategize their routes and avoid peak travel times, primarily between late afternoon and evening, to mitigate congestion impact.

The heightened traffic is especially significant as many Malaysians will be on the move to spend time with family and visit various destinations during the festive season. Ensuring the safety of all highway users remains the top priority for WCE, hence urging travelers to plan their journeys, take adequate rest, and never compromise safety for minimal time savings.

To cope with the projected increase in vehicular traffic, WCE is augmenting its operational readiness across open sections by deploying 24-hour highway patrols and Emergency Response Team (ERT) coverage, while continuously monitoring traffic conditions. WCE emphasized that travelers could utilize the WCE app for route planning, route navigation, and real-time traffic updates, including live CCTV feeds along the expressway.
