No contact yet with abductors of Niger worshippers – Commissioner

The Niger State Government has yet to receive any communication or demands from the captors of worshippers kidnapped in Borgu Local Government Area last Friday. Commissioner for Information Obed Nuhu revealed this during an interview on Thursday, stating the assault took place in three distinct locations and was believed to be orchestrated by the Lakurawa and Boko Haram groups.

"There has been no contact with them; no interactions have taken place yet," Nuhu affirmed. He added that the government is still determining the exact number of people abducted, promising to provide verified figures once they are confirmed. Governor Umaru Bago has ordered security forces to focus on rescuing the victims and restoring tranquility in the affected regions.

A joint security operation has been initiated to investigate the incident, locate the perpetrators, and attempt a rescue. The mission's specifics remain undisclosed due to its sensitive nature. President Bola Tinubu has ordered security and intelligence agencies to commence an urgent and coordinated operation for the rescue of the abducted worshippers, instructing the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, and other pertinent agencies, according to a statement by the President's spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
