Karmelo Anthony's attorneys keep fighting after new trial denied

Karmelo Anthony's legal team remains optimistic despite a judge's denial of a new murder trial. Convicted of killing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a Frisco ISD track meet, Anthony's attorneys argue that their client did not receive a fair trial. The appellate attorneys made their first public comments after their unsuccessful motion for a new trial.

Wilson, Anthony's lead attorney, states that the trial was unfair because the jury was not presented with crucial background information about both teens. This exclusion prevented the jury from determining whether Anthony or Metcalf was the aggressor in the altercation. The attorneys also argue that the exclusion of Black jurors could have affected the trial's outcome, as they believe a diverse jury would have been more receptive.

Anthony decided not to testify due to concerns that prosecutors would use his past to breach their agreement. The attorneys claim that the trial's deviation from a normal trial makes it unfair, and they plan to appeal the murder conviction, which could take over a year.
