Grand Theft Auto 6: Extended Look Sparks Netflix Viewership Spike, as Streamer Experiences Momentary Wobble

Netflix experienced a 50% spike in US viewership yesterday following the debut of Grand Theft Auto 6: Extended Look, according to audience data shared by market intelligence firm Sensor Tower to IGN. The uptick in viewership was particularly noticeable compared to the same time on the previous day, with mobile use increasing almost 50% and web visitors soaring by 125%.

Users on both mobile devices and PCs tuned in to watch the event, which primarily occurred from work or class settings. Although the stream faced technical difficulties in multiple countries, the issue was resolved within around 30 seconds. The launch of GTA 6 has helped Netflix expand its appeal as a comprehensive entertainment platform, converting heightened consumer interest into re-engagement from lapsed viewers and attracting new subscribers.

Sensor Tower data also revealed that more than 4.5 million copies of GTA 6 have been pre-ordered, generating nearly $450 million in revenue, with the majority being for the $100 Ultimate Edition on PlayStation 5. IGN has been granted an exclusive preview of GTA 6 and has shared additional details on the game's romance system, estimated playtime, side activities, and the comparison of its larger map to previous Rockstar games.
