PURC intervention restores power to Abofour-Dumasua community

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has successfully restored electricity to the Abofour-Dumasua community in the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti Region. This intervention came after the community experienced a prolonged power outage, lasting several weeks, due to a faulty 200KVA transformer. The issue arose in the early weeks of August when the transformer developed a fault.

Residents of the community took matters into their own hands and lodged a complaint with the PURC's Bono East Regional Office, expressing their frustration over the extended outage and the delays in replacing the faulty transformer. Upon receiving the complaint, the Commission promptly visited the community, engaging with residents to reassure them of their commitment to resolve the problem.

They also reached out to the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) responsible for the maintenance and replacement of the transformer.

The delay in resolving the issue was primarily attributed to transportation challenges faced by NEDCo, which left the community without electricity for an extended period. On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the PURC teamed up with NEDCo to supervise the replacement of the faulty transformer. Thanks to this coordinated effort, electricity supply was swiftly restored to the community.

The Commission expressed gratitude to the residents for their patience and understanding during the outage, while the residents in turn thanked the PURC for its swift intervention and efforts to restore power to their community.
