Oilers Confirm Troubling Update On Injury-Prone Frederik Andersen

The Edmonton Oilers recently received troubling news regarding their newly acquired goaltender, Frederik Andersen. The team has confirmed that Andersen will be sidelined for the first several weeks of the season due to an injury sustained during an offseason workout. This development comes as a significant blow, as Andersen was signed by the Oilers earlier this summer to bolster their goaltending, which was the team's biggest need at the time.

Andersen, who turns 37 this fall, entered his first season with Edmonton after signing a one-year contract worth $2.8 million in free agency. Throughout his professional career, the veteran netminder has faced numerous injury setbacks. Before joining the Oilers, he spent five seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes, where he played a pivotal role in their championship run, posting an impressive 13-2 record with a 1.89 GAA, .910 save percentage, and three shutouts in 16 games.

In the 2025-26 regular season, Andersen went 16-14-5 with a 3.05 goals-against average and .874 save percentage in 35 appearances.

Despite struggling with injuries in recent years, Andersen brings a wealth of experience to the Edmonton Oilers. Over his 552 regular-season games, he has compiled a 324-149-58 record, a 2.58 goals-against average, a .913 save percentage, and secured 28 shutouts. In 101 playoff games, he has produced a 59-37 record, a 2.32 goals-against average, a .913 save percentage, and eight shutouts.

The Oilers are now faced with the challenge of adjusting to a new starting goaltending tandem without Andersen's presence. Tristan Jarry, whom they acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins in a significant trade last December, and Devon Levi, an untested prospect they signed from the Buffalo Sabres earlier this summer, will have to step up and provide solid goaltending coverage for the team during training camp and the exhibition schedule.
