Bayern enter Bundesliga season as overwhelming favourites — and they want the treble

BERLIN, Aug 27 — Bayern Munich are poised to claim the Bundesliga title and complete a treble, according to the Bavarian giants. In their opening match of the new season, the reigning champions face Bundesliga runners-up Stuttgart. After a successful 2025-26 campaign, where Bayern won the double and recorded the fourth-best points tally in Bundesliga history, the team boasts a formidable lineup featuring Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Diaz.

Last season, aided by Kane's remarkable 122-goal haul, Bayern secured the double and won the Cup final against Stuttgart, with a memorable hat-trick. They only suffered one domestic defeat all season, showcasing their dominance. The addition of Moroccan World Cup star Ismael Saibari and Germany's Nathaniel Brown further bolstered Bayern's depth.

Meanwhile, Bundesliga rivals have undergone a significant overhaul. Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig have introduced new coaches, while Borussia Dortmund has spent heavily on youth talent to compete for the title. Dortmund's coach, Niko Kovac, acknowledged the challenge in closing the gap, stating that "a lot must happen" for his team to succeed.

Stuttgart, despite lacking high-profile signings, have managed to retain their key players since Sebastian Hoeness took over in 2023. Leverkusen, winners in 2023-24, have brought in Spanish coach Carles Martinez Novell to revitalize their team. Leipzig commence their season under Argentine Martin Demichelis, replacing Ole Werner, who led the Saxons to third place and the Champions League.

Bayern's Harry Kane emphasized the significance of their victory over Dortmund in the German Super Cup, stating that it sends a message to their Bundesliga rivals. The England captain has already secured three major trophies with Bayern and two Super Cups since his move to Germany in 2023. Kane reportedly has extra motivation to start the season strongly, having been nominated for the Ballon d'Or, which will be awarded in October in London.

Bayern's sporting director, Christoph Freund, praised Kane, declaring that "he deserves to win the Ballon d'Or — he had an outstanding season."
