Muchova & Mensik win US Open mixed doubles title

Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik clinched the US Open mixed doubles title, winning $1 million in prize money. Mensik delivered a 131mph ace to secure a 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 victory over Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli. This victory marked their first Grand Slam title and came just six weeks after Muchova lost to Linda Noskova in the Wimbledon final.

The 30-year-old had been out of action following a minor surgery. Mensik, who had never played mixed doubles before, credited his serve for his performance. They wore matching maroon outfits on court, a decision Muchova made after explaining the color to her younger teammate. The pair's matches were decided by 10-point tie-breaks.

Bencic and Cobolli won the first tie-break 10-5 against Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils, preventing them from becoming the first married couple to win a Grand Slam mixed doubles title since 1939. Monfils is retiring at the end of the season. Muchova and Mensik then overcame Andrey Rublev and Mirra Andreeva in the second semi-final. All eight semi-finalists will compete in the US Open singles main draw, starting Sunday.
