More than 50 Malaysians unreachable after deadly Nepal floods

More than 50 Malaysian travellers remain unreachable following a deadly flood in Nepal, according to the charge d'affaires of the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu. The flooding, triggered by an avalanche, has left hundreds of foreigners and locals unaccounted for. The Nepalese government has deployed helicopters for search-and-rescue operations, but gathering information on the missing Malaysians is challenging due to damaged communication infrastructure.

The flood death toll has surpassed 160, with at least 142 Indians among the foreigners reported missing. The floods destroyed 19 bridges and 40km of highway. Nepal's Chinese border region experienced a glacial collapse and debris flow, not an earthquake as initially reported. China's President Xi Jinping ordered efforts to locate missing people, while India deployed a C-130J aircraft with relief materials and Pakistan pledged support to Nepal.

Indian states bordering Nepal are on flood alert as the impact may travel downstream via the Gandak River.
