9 Koreans remain missing in Nepal floods; gov't team to be dispatched

Nine Koreans are still missing after severe flooding in Nepal, with the government planning to send a joint rapid response team on Thursday to assist in the search and rescue operations, according to Seoul's foreign ministry. The nine missing individuals consist of six workers from Doosan Enerbility Co. and three from the state-run power generation company, Korea South-East Power Co. They were working on a hydropower plant in Nepal's Rasuwa district when the flooding struck on Wednesday, the ministry reported.

Meanwhile, 10 other Koreans linked to Doosan, who had been trapped in the area, have been found safe but are still awaiting rescue. They were part of approximately 200 foreign employees who evacuated the region while working on the construction project. A government team, consisting of representatives from the foreign ministry, police, and fire authorities, is set to travel to Nepal and reach Kathmandu later on Thursday, the ministry announced.

President Lee Jae Myung has directed the government to make every possible effort to locate and rescue the missing Koreans, mobilizing all necessary resources.
