Four killed as hoodlums clash in Lagos community

On Thursday, a violent altercation at Power Line Bus Stop in Ikola, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, resulted in the deaths of four men. The confrontation, which broke out between a northerner and a suspected cult leader, quickly escalated into communal unrest. A resident informed our correspondent that the dispute began with the murder of a former cult leader, leading to a riot that required reinforcement from Meiran Division police.

According to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, four individuals were confirmed dead, with rumors suggesting three additional deaths. The agency responded to a distress call about a fire outbreak at 1:52 pm, dispatching its team 25 minutes later. The incident led to the destruction of several makeshift structures, and emergency medical support was provided to the injured by the Agbado Oke-Odo Ambulance Service, Nigerian Red Cross Society, and other healthcare responders.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire and conducted damping down to prevent its spread. A joint security operation comprising the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps was activated to restore order and safeguard lives and property. The Chairman of Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area assisted in coordinating with community leaders.

Normalcy was restored in Ikola and neighboring communities, with security personnel maintaining a presence to prevent further breaches of public order. Oke-Osanyintolu urged residents to remain calm, refrain from reprisals, and avoid spreading unverified information that could exacerbate tensions. He stated that a thorough investigation had commenced to determine the immediate and underlying causes of the incident, with perpetrators facing legal consequences.

Additionally, PUNCH Online reported earlier in March that 18 individuals were arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for their involvement in a violent clash in Ilemba Hausa, Ojo area of Lagos.
