Airport projects funded without government money – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama revealed that Ghana's major airport infrastructure projects are being funded without government assistance. At a ceremony marking the start of construction for a large multi-purpose building at Accra International Airport on August 27, Mahama highlighted several initiatives, including a new control tower for the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, renovations to Terminal 2, and the construction of linking concourses and a new parking area and hotel complex.

The President emphasized that these projects are being financed entirely through the balance sheets of the relevant institutions, with the government providing no financial support. Mahama praised the Minister for Transport, boards, management, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders for their role in bringing these projects to fruition.

He stressed that this approach demonstrates the financial capability of the aviation entities and aligns with his administration's goal of fostering sustainable development by allowing state-owned institutions to use their financial resources for strategic investments. Mahama expressed optimism that the completed projects would upgrade Ghana's airport infrastructure and strengthen the nation's position as a competitive aviation hub in Africa.
