Williams sisters granted US Open doubles wildcard

Venus and Serena Williams, the storied tennis duo with 14 women's doubles Grand Slam titles between them, including two US Opens, have earned a doubles wildcard for the 2026 US Open, tournament officials announced on Wednesday. The US Tennis Association's decision comes after Serena's compelling comeback at Arthur Ashe Stadium, where she and Spanish mixed doubles partner Carlos Alcaraz won their opening match before bowing out in the quarterfinals.

Venus had already received a USTA wildcard for the women's singles event, with Serena opting not to compete in that category. Together, the Williams sisters have clinched a combined 14 women's doubles Grand Slam championships and three Olympic gold medals in women's doubles. They last played together in New York back in 2022, suffering a loss in their opening match against the Czech duo of Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova.

Earlier this month, they stumbled at the Cincinnati Open, losing their first-round singles contest. The sisters had initially been scheduled to compete in Wimbledon earlier this summer, but opted to withdraw following Serena's injury during an opening round singles match.
