Muchova and Mensik win US Open mixed doubles title

Czech tennis duo Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik claimed the US Open mixed doubles title on Wednesday, defeating Swiss stars Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 10-6. The Czech pair secured their first Grand Slam trophy together, starting their match at a rapid pace as Mensik hammered an ace past Bencic on set point.

Bencic broke serve in the second set, but the Swiss player later leveled the match when her forehand clipped the net cord. In the decisive tiebreak, Mensik's powerful serves and Muchova's sharp net play helped the Czechs take control. The 20-year-old sealed the victory with another ace, celebrating after clinching the championship points.

Muchova attributed their win to the matching outfits they wore during the ceremony, while expressing surprise at standing on the stage after months of preparation. Muchova and Mensik also saved two match points against Russians Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev in their semi-final, advancing to the title match. The 16-team mixed doubles tournament began on Tuesday, featuring top singles players in an effort to boost attendance before the singles main draw.

Other notable teams included Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka, as well as Carlos Alcaraz and Serena Williams.
