Serena Williams to play doubles with Venus at the US Open

Serena and Venus Williams have been granted wild card entries into the women's doubles event at the upcoming US Open. The sisters, who have both won the US Open doubles title twice, are entering the tournament after Serena withdrew from the singles competition due to a knee injury. In mixed doubles, Serena paired up with 19-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, advancing to the quarterfinals before losing.

Meanwhile, Venus will compete in the women's singles event. The first round of the women's doubles tournament is scheduled to take place on September 3. Together, the Williams sisters have claimed 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and Olympic gold medals. They held the No. 1 ranking in women's doubles for eight weeks and shared the top spot in the rankings for a total of 155 weeks.

The sisters dominated the women's doubles circuit during their prime years, winning back-to-back Australian Open and Wimbledon titles in 2009, followed by their second US Open doubles title that same summer. They went on to win the Australian Open and Wimbledon again in 2010 and the French Open in 2011, becoming the only sisters to hold all four major trophies simultaneously.
