Serena, Venus Williams receive US Open doubles wild card

Venus and Serena Williams, renowned for their 14 women's doubles Grand Slam titles, including two US Opens, have been granted wildcard entries for the 2026 US Open women's doubles tournament, announced the US Tennis Association on Wednesday. Following Serena Williams' impressive comeback at Arthur Ashe Stadium last Tuesday, where she and Carlos Alcaraz secured a match win before suffering a quarterfinal loss, Venus Williams was also granted a USTA wildcard for women's singles, a tournament Serena is not participating in.

Together, the Williams sisters have clinched 14 women's doubles Grand Slam titles, along with three Olympic gold medals in the same event. Their last joint appearance in New York was in 2022 when they lost their opening match to Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic. Earlier this month, they suffered a setback by dropping their opening match at the Cincinnati Open.

Despite entering Wimbledon earlier this summer, the duo withdrew due to Serena's injury following an opening round singles loss.
