Three more nabbed over illegal race on Malaysia-Singapore Second Link

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have apprehended three additional men in the nation's capital amidst a controversy surrounding a video purportedly showing an unlawful motorcycle race along the Second Link highway in Johor. The recent arrests bring the total number of individuals detained in connection with the event to 11. The clash occurred in the early hours of August 22, around 7am, on the highway stretching between Km33 near the Senai toll exit and Km31 near the Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) interchange.

Tan Seng Lee, the Kulai police chief, stated in a recent statement that the three new suspects were apprehended in Kuala Lumpur on the previous day. They are currently under investigation for their alleged involvement in the illicit racing, which was captured in the widely-shared video, as per police reports. He added that the authorities will seek a remand order in the local magistrate's court to keep the trio in custody for further scrutiny under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which penalizes reckless and dangerous driving.

On August 23, eight men aged between 26 and 45, including a motorsport influencer, were previously apprehended and remanded following the viral 33-second video clip depicting the highway allegedly being obstructed to create a pathway for two motorcyclists to race. The incident garnered significant attention after the video spread rapidly on social media platforms.
