3 more men remanded over illegal motorcycle race on Johor Second Link

KULAI: Three additional men have been held in connection with an illicit motorcycle race that took place on the Second Link highway in Johor, increasing the overall arrest count to 11. Among the three, one individual was granted a four-day remand, whereas the remaining two received a one-day detention to aid ongoing investigations.

The incident garnered significant attention after a 33-second video of the race surfaced online, depicting two motorcyclists engaging in a high-speed contest. This event unfolded last Saturday when several individuals obstructed a portion of the highway in Johor to permit the racers to proceed. The three suspects, ranging in age from 24 to 41 years old, were apprehended at a residence in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, this morning and are currently under investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

According to Datuk Seri Mohammed Hasbullah Ali, director of the Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department, authorities suspect that a RM15,000 wager was placed on the unauthorized motorcycle race. The video also captured the act of setting off firecrackers to mark the conclusion of the race, as well as spectators gathering along the roadside to witness the spectacle.
