Three killed in head-on crash in Kota Tinggi

KOTA TINGGI: A tragic head-on crash claimed the lives of three individuals yesterday, as a Toyota Vios crossed into the opposing lane and collided with an oncoming Honda City near Km80 of Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing. The victims were identified as 21-year-old Muhamad Shuhairil Soraiya, the Vios driver, his 20-year-old passenger Nur Fatin Nabilah Yusrishahrun, and 35-year-old Muhamad Amin Mukhtar, the Honda driver.

Superintendent Yusof Othman of the district police reported the crash was notified at 5.25pm. Preliminary investigations suggest the Vios may have skidded before entering the opposite lane, leading to the collision. All three victims sustained severe head and bodily injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Their remains were sent to the forensic unit at Kota Tinggi Hospital for examination.

The incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. Superintendent Yusof urged the public to assist with any information by contacting the district police headquarters traffic division or the nearest police station. Fire and rescue personnel from Kota Tinggi and Mersing stations arrived at the scene at 5.05pm, employing rescue equipment to extract the victims from the wreckage, a process completed by 6.59pm.
