Police identify trio killed in Kota Tinggi head-on crash

KOTA TINGGI: The police have confirmed the identities of the three individuals who lost their lives in a devastating head-on collision near Km80 of Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing yesterday. The victims were identified as 21-year-old Toyota Vios driver Muhamad Shuhairil Soraiya, his 20-year-old passenger Nur Fatin Nabilah Yusrishahrun, and 35-year-old Honda City driver Muhamad Amin Mukhtar.

Superintendent Yusof Othman of the District Police reported receiving information about the crash at 5:25pm. According to his statement, initial investigations suggest the possibility that the Vios may have skidded before crossing into the opposing lane, resulting in a fatal collision with the Honda City. All three victims sustained severe head and bodily injuries, leading to their demise at the scene.

Their bodies were promptly sent to the Kota Tinggi Hospital's forensic unit for further examination. The case is currently under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to causing death through reckless or dangerous driving. The Superintendent urged anyone with relevant information to contact the District Police Headquarters Traffic Division or the nearest police station for assistance.

Shortly after the crash, eight personnel from the Kota Tinggi and Mersing Fire and Rescue stations responded to the scene following a distress call received at 5:05pm. The firefighters utilized specialized rescue equipment, including a cutter and stretcher, to extract the victims from the wreckage, completing the operation at 6:59pm.
