T.N. Students Youth Federation to organise protest on Sept. 1

The Tamil Nadu Students Youth Federation announced plans for a memorial event on September 1 in Chennai, coinciding with the ninth anniversary of the death of S. Anitha, a student who took her own life in 2017 after failing to secure a seat in the MBBS program due to the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET) replacing class 12 results as the determining factor.

At a press conference on Wednesday, August 26, the Federation urged students and youth across the State to hold remembrance day events, designating September 1 as an anti-NEET day, and to peacefully protest against the NEET system. Notable political leaders and film personalities were invited to the event. The Federation emphasized that the State had been protesting against NEET for years, and this year's protest, particularly the Jantar Mantar protests in New Delhi, demonstrated a significant level of opposition.

The memorial gathering aimed to convey a unified message of opposition to NEET, asserting that the premise of NEET claiming to produce meritorious students was flawed. The Federation called on all students, youth, and members of the public in Tamil Nadu to attend the event, encouraging participation from all student organizations, regardless of party affiliations.
