Personal dislike for OSP leadership behind calls to abolish office – Kissi Agyebeng

Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has alleged that some calls to abolish or weaken the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) are driven by personal dislike for the institution’s leadership. He stated that these attacks were often based on a desire for different individuals to hold leadership positions within the OSP, rather than on any evidence of misconduct by him or other senior officials.

In a press conference, he emphasized that such an approach is detrimental to the growth of public institutions. Agyebeng also pointed out that there was no evidence to suggest that he or other OSP officials had engaged in "obnoxious or untoward conduct." He argued that disagreements with individual office holders should not be used as a reason to dismantle an institution created by law to combat corruption.

According to Agyebeng, advocating for the abolition of the OSP solely because certain people are disliked is prioritizing personalities over the institution and is contrary to the principles of development. His statements are part of a broader defense of the OSP against ongoing attacks and attempts to limit its powers. He acknowledged that the OSP may have made mistakes but maintained that such shortcomings should not be used to justify weakening its statutory mandate.
