OSP has made corruption too costly to engage in lightly – Kissi Agyebeng

Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng stated that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has made corruption significantly more expensive for those involved in both the public and private sectors. This has created a deterrent effect against corrupt practices, making people more hesitant to engage in such activities. During a press briefing, Mr Agyebeng highlighted measurable and verifiable outcomes of the OSP's efforts, including financial recoveries, savings, and interventions in various sectors.

These include a financial recovery of GH¢8.5 million and US$2 million, the prevention of the Tema Oil Refinery from being "pawned off," a more robust auction system in the customs sector, and a significant reduction in the abuse of the Customs Advanced Ruling regime. Additionally, the OSP's interventions in the government payroll system have saved the country over GH¢100 million so far.

The Special Prosecutor emphasized that the OSP's interventions have generated financial value exceeding 20 times the resources allocated to the institution since its establishment. Despite facing criticism, Mr Agyebeng urged against dismissing the OSP's work without factual evidence, urging a more objective assessment of the institution's performance.
