Online publishers mourn journalist Dotun Oladipo

The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers mourns the death of Dotun Oladipo, its former president and publisher of The Eagle Online. Oladipo, who served as president from 2017 to 2021, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56. GOCOP's Publicity Secretary, Kemi Yesufu, confirmed the news in a statement on Wednesday, expressing sadness over the loss.

Oladipo, a seasoned journalist and editor with traditional media experience, transitioned to digital publishing, bringing his expertise to The Eagle Online. At a time when online news publishing was still emerging in Nigeria, he advocated for publishers to unite and share ideas, contributing significantly to the professional community.

GOCOP President Danlami Nmodu described Oladipo's passing as deeply painful, highlighting his four-year leadership during a critical phase of online publishing's development in Nigeria. Oladipo, who was also the Managing Director and CEO of Premium Eagle Media Limited, had a distinguished journalism career, including stints as a politics editor at PUNCH Newspapers and a member of its editorial board.

He was a member of several Nigerian media outlets before founding The Eagle Online. GOCOP pledged to honor Oladipo's memory with his family and associates.
