Nepal’s PM calls on nation to ‘stand together’ after deadly flood

KATHMANDU: Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah called on the nation to stand united following a deadly flood that claimed at least 95 lives on Wednesday. The devastating flood, which tore through Nepal's border region with Tibet, has left many injured and displaced.

Shah expressed his condolences, assuring the people that they are not alone in their time of need. He vowed that the state would provide all necessary support, including rescue operations, medical treatment, food, and shelter, stating that the government takes full responsibility for these essential services.

Some 403 tourists, including 341 foreigners, remain missing following the disaster, with Nepali police spokesman Abi Narayan Kafle reporting the situation to AFP. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Shah, offering his condolences and pledging India's assistance in the rescue and relief efforts. In a statement, Modi emphasized the solidarity between the people of India and Nepal, assuring that India stands ready to provide all possible humanitarian aid.

Shah urged the Nepali people to remain resilient and patient, emphasizing the importance of unity during such challenging times.
