Hundreds of tourists missing after deadly Nepal floods

On Wednesday, flash floods devastated the border region of Nepal with Tibet, resulting in at least 95 deaths and leaving hundreds of tourists missing. According to the Nepal Tourism Board, 403 visitors, including 341 foreign nationals, are currently unaccounted for. The tourism board provided varying tallies, with 384 missing travelers and 291 of them non-Nepalis.

Indian nationals were among the missing, with 142 foreigners missing, who were in the country with three travel agencies: Samrat Tours & Travels, Leaf Holiday, and Himalayan Glacier. Seventeen Malaysians traveling with Fishtail Tours & Travels were also unaccounted for, though Malaysia's foreign ministry reported 11 missing Malaysians from Rasuwa district.

Twelve British citizens with Alpine Eco Trek agency were among the missing, as were eight South Korean hydropower workers in Rasuwa district. Four South Africans traveling with Alpine Eco Trek, three US citizens with Fishtail Tours & Travels, and one Australian with Kathmandu Holiday Tours & Travel were also unaccounted for. Additionally, a Dutch citizen with the same company as the Australian and two Italian tourists with their guide were stranded upstream from a landslide but receiving assistance.

Several tour groups reported missing foreigners with unconfirmed nationalities, including 77 from Trekkers Society, 26 from Kailash Journey, and eight from Richa Tours & Travels. In total, 93 Nepali citizens were also missing. The Nepali tourism board confirmed the situation and provided these details to the public.
