Nepal’s PM calls on nation to ‘stand together’ after deadly flood

KATHMANDU: Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah called on his country to unite in the wake of a devastating flood that claimed at least 95 lives on Wednesday.

The prime minister's statement on social media acknowledged the immense grief the nation has endured, assuring the people that they are not alone in their time of need. He emphasized that the government is fully committed to providing assistance with rescue operations, medical care, food, and shelter.

According to Nepali police spokesman Abi Narayan Kafle, the flood, which originated at the border region with Tibet, left a staggering death toll. Additionally, 403 tourists, including 341 foreigners, remained missing for several hours following the disaster, as reported by the ministry of culture, tourism, and civil aviation.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences to Shah and offered assistance in the rescue efforts. Modi stated that India stands in solidarity with Nepal during this difficult time and is prepared to provide all necessary humanitarian aid. His government is working closely with Nepali authorities to coordinate rescue and relief operations.
