Mahama inaugurates committee to oversee GH¢1bn Bawku Revitalisation Fund

President John Dramani Mahama officially launched a five-member committee on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, responsible for managing the GH¢1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund. The initiative, designed to bolster infrastructure and development efforts in Bawku and its surrounding districts, was inaugurated at the Presidency. The committee, chaired by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, also includes MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga; Tempane's Chief, His Royal Majesty Cletus Abugri; Upper East Regional Minister Akamugri Donatus Atanga; and MP for Garu, Dr Thomas Winsum Anabah.

Mahama assured that funding for the revitalisation project has been secured, facilitating the execution of various initiatives following the improvement in security conditions in Bawku. The fund was established following the December 2025 report from the Otumfuo Mediation Committee, which aimed to resume peace and progress in the region.

The prolonged conflict in Bawku had significantly disrupted public services and halted several large-scale development projects, including the Tamli Dam project, which was put on hold due to the unrest.

With the return of relative peace, Mahama expressed that the government is now in a strong position to revive stalled projects and expedite development in the area. The revitalisation programme aims to ensure Bawku and its neighboring districts receive their equitable portion of national development. The committee's role will be to oversee the allocation and utilization of the fund to meet the critical infrastructure and development needs of the region.
