Vigilante boss urges FG to equip members to reduce battlefield losses

James Udoma, the Commandant-General of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), has called on the Federal Government to provide necessary equipment and operational tools for its members to reduce casualties during security operations. During an interview in Abuja, Udoma lamented that many VGN members had been lost due to lack of adequate tools while deployed to the frontlines.

Despite their training by the Nigerian Police Force, VGN members continue to lose their lives because they lack proper kits and equipment. Udoma emphasized that the VGN remains committed to its mission and stresses the importance of the government's support in equipping its personnel. He expressed confidence in the VGN's ability to combat insurgency and criminal activities when adequately supported, stating that they have the necessary men and resources.

Udoma also mentioned the establishment of a committee to address factionalization within the organisation and unveiled a 2027 Election Security Support and Community Intelligence Framework to strengthen grassroots intelligence gathering. He stressed that the VGN would complement, not compete with, other security agencies.
