Claims OSP has achieved nothing are testable – Kissi Agyebeng

Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng dismissed claims that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has failed to make progress since its creation, urging critics to test their assertions against the office's performance record. Mr. Agyebeng argued that those who say the OSP has achieved nothing cannot sustain their position without a thorough examination of its work, resources, mandate, and the intricate nature of the cases it handles.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, August 26, Mr. Agyebeng invited critics of the OSP to compare its performance with other institutions they deem more effective, considering factors like mandate, years in operation, resources, case complexity, and legal constraints. "If you do this dispassionately, it would occur to you that the OSP has performed creditably," he declared.

The Special Prosecutor emphasized that the OSP's performance is transparent and openly available to the public. As of December 31, 2025, OSP was prosecuting 33 individuals, while 79 cases were at the full investigation stage and 161 were under preliminary investigation. The office had secured seven convictions by the end of 2025.

Mr. Agyebeng vehemently criticized calls for the OSP's abolition, asserting that such demands are often rooted in personal dislike for key OSP officials rather than evidence of incompetence or institutional failure. He argued that efforts to weaken or abolish a public institution designed to combat corruption solely due to disagreements with its leaders do not aid national development.

Despite the criticism, Mr. Agyebeng maintained that the OSP has remained steadfast and would continue to pursue its mission. "Through it all, the office has held high and been irrepressible, and today I announce the rebirth of the OSP," he stated.
