CBSA finds 385 kilos of cocaine in commercial truck at US-Canada border

Canadian border officers seized approximately 385 kilograms of suspected cocaine from a commercial truck at the Blue Water Bridge on August 13 in Point Edward, Ontario. The discovery was announced on August 25, nearly two weeks later. The seized drugs weighed nearly 849 pounds. The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers referred the truck for secondary examination at the port of entry, during which they detected and seized the suspected narcotics.

The driver was subsequently arrested, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) took over the criminal investigation. Charges of importing a controlled substance and possession-for-trafficking were brought against the individual, both under Canada's Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The government mentioned that the court will validate these charges.

The driver and the carrier were not identified, nor were the declared cargo, shipment origin, and destination. Authorities also withheld details about the concealment method. CBSA's regional director general, Michael Prosia, described the seizure as a demonstration of officer expertise, stating that daily, they work with law enforcement partners to secure Canada's border and prevent harm in communities.

In fiscal year 2025-26, CBSA reported over 4,500 kilograms of cocaine and crack seizures, including coca leaves, coca paste, and other cocaine products.
