Bihar On Alert As Flash Flood Risk In Nepal's Gandak Catchment Raises Water Surge Concerns

Patna, Bihar, India - The Disaster Management Department has issued a warning of a potential flash flood situation in Bihar, following a high risk of flooding in Nepal's Gandak River catchment. Districts along the Gandak River, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Lamjung, and Tanahun in the Gandak catchment, and Dolakha and Sindhupalchok in the Kosi catchment, are at risk.

A high-level review meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, was held to review the developing situation and ensure proper flood preparedness. The Water Resources Department has instructed the release of water through all gates of the Gandak Barrage and its canals, while relevant officials and engineers are directed to monitor water resource infrastructure.

The state government has emphasized that there is no need for panic, and citizens are urged to remain prepared for a possible flood situation.
