Nepal flash floods put Bihar on alert, response teams on standby

Flash floods triggered by a glacial lake outburst in Nepal have prompted Bihar to mobilize its disaster response teams and prepare for possible inundations. The Bhotekoshi River, which surged downstream, caused water levels in the Trishuli basin and the Gandak River system to rise. Bihar authorities opened all 36 floodgates at Valmikinagar as a precautionary measure.

A technical team has been dispatched to monitor the situation. The Gandak Barrage recorded a discharge of 86,000 cusecs at 12 noon, with the water level at 4.77 meters at the Devghat gauge, exceeding the danger level of 9 meters and warning level of 7.30 meters. Teams from the National and State Disaster Response Forces are being deployed to affected areas.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary convened an emergency meeting to review the situation and ensure all necessary actions are taken promptly. Citizens can report flood-related emergencies through a toll-free number or other contact numbers provided by the department.
