Antoine Semenyo becomes first Ghanaian named in PFA Premier League Team of the Year

Antoine Semenyo, a forward playing for Manchester City, has achieved a historic milestone as the first Ghanaian to be included in the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year. The Manchester City player’s exceptional performance throughout the season secured him this prestigious recognition.

Semenyo made a significant impact on his debut, scoring in Manchester City’s impressive 10-1 FA Cup victory over Exeter City on January 10, 2026. Following this outstanding start, he continued to deliver remarkable performances, setting up another goal and earning the title of Player of the Match just three days later in a 2-0 victory against Newcastle United in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final.

Despite initially appearing to have scored twice against Newcastle, Semenyo’s first goal was later dismissed by VAR due to Erling Haaland being adjudged offside and obstructing goalkeeper Nick Pope. Despite this slight setback, the Ghanaian’s speed, strength, and direct running style made him an indispensable asset to City’s attacking lineup.

Throughout the season, Semenyo established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout forwards, contributing significantly to Manchester City’s attacking prowess.
