17 Malaysians among 291 foreign nationals missing in Nepal floods

Seventeen Malaysians are among the missing after devastating floods struck Nepal's Rasuwa district, according to the Nepal Tourism Board. Over 380 tourists, comprising 291 foreigners, have been reported missing due to the catastrophic floods. In addition to the 17 Malaysians, search efforts are underway to locate over 100 Indians, 12 Britons, four South Africans, three US citizens, one Australian, and one Dutch individual. The nationalities of 111 people remain unconfirmed at this time.

The massive flash flood impacted the Bhote Koshi River area in the northern Rasuwa district, causing widespread damage to markets, settlements, and infrastructure. Reports indicate that communication and electricity networks were severely disrupted, contributing to the loss of contact with the missing individuals. The Malaysian embassy in Kathmandu has received numerous reports from travel agencies regarding lost communication with the 11 Malaysians believed to be in the affected district.

The Malaysian government, through Wisma Putra, is actively coordinating with local authorities and Nepali search and rescue teams to locate and ensure the safety of the missing Malaysians. They advise Malaysians residing in or traveling through Nepal, especially those near the affected regions, to remain vigilant and adhere to safety instructions provided by local authorities. Malaysians are encouraged to register their details on the e-Konsular portal and stay in contact with the embassy for updates.
