VIDEO: Umahi inspects Benin-Agbor-Asaba expressway, apologises to commuters

Federal intervention was swiftly initiated on the strained Benin-Agbor-Asaba Expressway on Tuesday, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive to alleviate the plight of stranded commuters. Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, spearheaded the emergency response in Edo State, as reported by his Media Assistant, Francis Nwaze, who shared a video of the minister’s on-ground inspection.

The road, handed over to a private concessionaire since 2025, had become notorious for congestion issues, prompting Tinubu to order prompt corrective measures. Umahi, accompanied by the Minister of State for Works and other officials, launched remedial works on the Ekiti-Kogi corridor, while he personally led efforts on the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road, aiming to convene key stakeholders, including representatives from Edo and Delta State Governments and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), to address the immediate challenges faced by motorists.

Umahi expressed regret for the predicament and pledged that the Federal Government would not only provide temporary relief but also focus on long-term solutions to enhance the roads’ reliability.
