National Day 2026: Putrajaya road closures begin tomorrow, only two bridges to remain open

Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are set to experience road closures starting tomorrow in preparation for the 69th Merdeka Eve celebrations and National Day 2026. The Royal Malaysia Police will enforce strict security and traffic controls during this period. The road closures in Putrajaya will commence at 5am on Aug 30 and last until 6pm the following day.

Only two bridges, Seri Bestari Bridge and Seri Setia Bridge, will remain open to traffic throughout this period. Eight major roads in Putrajaya, including Dataran Putra, Persiaran Perdana, and Laman Perdana, will be completely blocked from 6am to noon on Aug 28 and 29 for rehearsals. Additionally, several other routes such as Lebuh Bestari, Lebuh Setia, and Lebuh Gemilang will also be affected.

As for Kuala Lumpur, the Kuala Lumpur Police will initiate the 2026 Merdeka Eve Crime Prevention Operation, concentrating on high-crime areas and managing crowds for fireworks and a drone show at the Kuala Lumpur Tower. Police in both cities are urging the public to plan their journeys, utilize the free shuttle bus service, and refrain from flying drones in Putrajaya, as it is designated a no-fly zone.

Around 2,357 police personnel will be deployed in Putrajaya, and approximately 80,000 visitors are expected.
