Indonesia Targets End to Oil, LPG Imports in Three Years

Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto has declared that the nation must cease all oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) imports within three years to bolster domestic energy self-sufficiency. This ambitious plan is further bolstered by a new 100 gigawatt peak (GWp) solar power plant initiative launched in Bali. Prabowo is confident the country will not require a single barrel of oil or LPG cylinder after this ambitious timeline.If achieved, this target would be met through the construction of the 100 GW solar power plant, enhanced geothermal energy, the development of gas fields, and increased oil extraction.

The solar plant program is a key part of Indonesia's goal to become independent from external energy influences and conditions.The government aims to complete the 100 GW solar power plant construction within the three-year timeframe, which would surpass the current national electricity production capacity of 88 GW from all sources combined.

This includes coal, oil, gas, and geothermal energy sources. Prabowo reiterated his commitment to the ambitious goal, stating that Indonesia is serious about achieving 100 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity within three years.He emphasized that the development of renewable energy must coincide with boosting domestic oil and gas production.

With the established geothermal capacity, discovered gas fields, and continued oil lifting efforts, Indonesia can meet its energy needs without relying on imports. Energy independence is crucial for national sovereignty, and Prabowo urged the Red and White Cabinet to work diligently, take bold steps, and focus on tangible achievements to improve the well-being of the Indonesian people.

The President is confident that the 100 GW solar power plant target can be realized in less than three years.
