El-Sayed distances himself from popular streamer’s comments on Israel and Jewish Americans

Abdul El-Sayed, a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Michigan, has distanced himself from progressive commentator Hasan Piker after Piker made controversial remarks on Israel and Jewish Americans. At a party for content creators supporting El-Sayed's campaign, Piker argued against the notion that opposing Israel is antisemitic, claiming that American Jews are not uniformly supportive of Israel, but that Jewish institutions often promote the idea that Jews are a monolithic group.

This dangerous propaganda, Piker suggested, could ultimately lead to violence against American Jews. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries condemned Piker's comments, calling them dangerous and antisemitic, with zero justification for threatening the safety of Jewish Americans during a time of rising hate. El-Sayed followed suit with his own statement addressing the controversy, which could complicate his campaign as he seeks to unite Democrats in a pivotal battleground state.
