Eid-el-Maulud: Natasha urges Muslims to promote peace, compassion

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central in Nigeria's Senate, has called upon Muslims nationwide to utilize the occasion of Eid-al-Maulud to foster peace, compassion, unity, and harmony. In a message circulated from Abuja, the senator expressed her congratulations to Muslims, especially those in Kogi Central, urging them to contemplate the life, teachings, and exemplary conduct of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

According to Akpoti-Uduaghan, the annual commemoration should transcend mere festivities, serving instead as a moment for Muslims to reaffirm their dedication to principles that can bolster the nation amid its social and economic hurdles. "Maulud offers us a beautiful chance to reflect on the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), whose message emphasized compassion, justice, humility, peace, and love for humanity," she stated.

"These enduring values remain crucial for constructing a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria." The senator further implored Muslims in Kogi Central to uphold the district's tradition of peaceful coexistence among its diverse communities and religious groups. She emphasized that Kogi Central boasts a legacy of religious and communal harmony that must be preserved and fortified through mutual respect and understanding.

"You must continue to be ambassadors of peace, tolerance, and unity. Our diversity should not divide us; rather, it should fortify our collective resolve to construct communities where everyone can live, worship, and pursue their aspirations in peace," she added. Akpoti-Uduaghan also addressed Muslim leaders, parents, and youths, urging them to promote moral rectitude, peaceful discourse, empathy for the less fortunate, and responsible citizenship during the celebration.

She stressed the importance of aiding the vulnerable, stating that assisting the poor and needy aligns with the humanitarian ideals demonstrated by the Prophet. "As we celebrate Maulud, let us remember those who are less fortunate. Let us share, forgive, show compassion, and extend a helping hand to those in need. The true essence of this celebration lies not only in our words and gatherings but also in the positive impact we make on others' lives."

In addition to her calls for unity and compassion, the lawmaker implored Nigerians to shun religious intolerance, animosity, violence, and divisive language, particularly as the nation requires greater unity and comprehension amid its current challenges. She urged political, traditional, and religious leaders to foster peaceful coexistence and constructive interaction across communities.

"Nigeria belongs to all of us, and our collective advancement hinges on our capacity to live together in peace. Let us employ the lessons of Mawlid to fortify our commitment to unity, justice, compassion, and peaceful coexistence," she concluded.
