Adu Boahene trial: Refusal to halt proceedings despite repeat injunction application unfortunate – Atta Akyea

Former Signals Bureau Director-General Kwadwo Adu Boahene's lead counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea, expressed disappointment over the Accra High Court's decision to proceed with the trial despite his client's repeated request to halt proceedings. The High Court dismissed a prior application to adjourn the trial pending Supreme Court determination over a review application filed by Ofoase-Ayirebi MP Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Atta Akyea believed the High Court should have awaited the Supreme Court's decision before continuing with the proceedings, as the outcome could affect the ongoing trial. Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Justice Srem-Sai, argued that the prosecution had little time to complete its case and that the Supreme Court had already made its ruling on the substantive interlocutory application.

The Supreme Court judge, however, stated that the earlier decision was binding until reversed, and thus the defence's request for an adjournment was denied. Atta Akyea found the judge's decision surprising and criticized the defence's position in having to cross-examine a witness despite lacking necessary training.
