Anwar applauds Sukma 2026 champions, urges youth to chase glory and carry Malaysia’s name worldwide

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has praised Selangor’s performance in hosting the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) and encouraged the nation’s youth to pursue excellence. Anwar commended the meticulous organization and spirited atmosphere of the Games, which highlighted Selangor’s ability to effectively host Malaysia’s sporting event. He lauded the athletes, coaches, officials, and secretariat, emphasizing that Sukma is not solely about winning medals but also a platform for discovering talent and nurturing champions.

"To our young people, continue striving and honing your talents, as some of you will eventually carry Malaysia’s name on the global stage," Anwar stated in a Facebook post. He congratulated Eliza Tan Ai Shen of Selangor and Cheah Zen Hong of Pahang for being named the Best Female and Male Athletes, respectively, and acknowledged that the hosts, Selangor, secured the overall victory in the 22nd edition of Sukma.

The Prime Minister also extended his gratitude to the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, for attending the closing ceremony of the games. Anwar reflected on the significance of Sukma, noting that it was established 40 years ago during his tenure as Youth and Sports Minister in 1983, serving as a platform to unite the talents, spirit, and determination of young people from across the country, including Brunei Darussalam.
