Anwar draws on Prophet’s legacy as he vows to drive Malaysia’s reform agenda

Malaysia's Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, has praised Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari and the state government for their dedication and hard work in successfully hosting the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma). Anwar highlighted the well-organized and lively event as a reflection of Selangor's spirit of enthusiasm and unity. He also congratulated the athletes, coaches, officials, and the secretariat involved, emphasizing that the Games are not just about winning medals, but also a platform to discover and nurture talent to produce champions.

To the young people of Malaysia, Anwar urged them to persist in honing their skills, stating that some of them will one day carry the nation's name on the global stage. He congratulated Eliza Tan Ai Shen of Selangor and Cheah Zen Hong of Pahang for being named the Best Female and Male Athletes, respectively, and expressed delight that the host state, Selangor, emerged as the overall champions of Sukma 2026.

Anwar also conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, for attending the closing ceremony of the 22nd edition of Sukma. He reminisced that Sukma was initiated 40 years ago when he held the position of Youth and Sports Minister in 1983. Anwar highlighted that Sukma continues to serve as a stage for young talents from across the country, including Brunei Darussalam, showcasing the unity of talent, spirit, and determination.
