2027: Makinde best man to dislodge Tinubu – APM

The opposition Allied People’s Movement (APM) has endorsed Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as a potential presidential candidate in the 2027 election to face incumbent President Bola Tinubu, according to APM National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf. The party urges other opposition candidates to support Makinde, whom they view as the most likely to defeat Tinubu.

Yusuf highlighted Makinde's popularity with young people, professionals, and other segments of the electorate, as well as his proposed solutions to security, economic, and infrastructure issues. They dismissed the idea that their endorsement was merely based on regional rotation, noting Makinde's South African background as a factor.

The APM spokesperson emphasized the importance of opposition parties uniting to form a strong front against the ruling All Progressives Congress, stating that Nigerians desire a new beginning with a leader who offers practical ideas and tangible solutions. The search for a consensus opposition candidate is a major issue ahead of the 2027 election, with various political groups advocating for a united platform to challenge the APC.
